ACADEMY’S INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FILM AWARDS
CEREMONY GOES GLOBAL WITH THE SUPPORT
OF LONGTIME ACADEMY PARTNER ROLEX

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that the presentation ceremony for its annual international student film competition, the Student Academy Awards, will be held in London this year.  The event, traditionally held at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, will take place at London’s ODEON Luxe Leicester Square on Monday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m. BST.  Tickets for the ceremony will be available in September.

In partnership with the BFI London Film Festival, Student Academy Award winners will have access to panels and networking opportunities.  In addition, winners will have exclusive access to Academy members to support their career advancement.

“As a leader in our international film community, and as our organization becomes more global in focus, the Academy is thrilled to bring the Student Academy Awards to London this year,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer.  “We are deeply grateful to our partners at Rolex for their support of this vital program and for sharing our commitment to discovering and fostering emerging filmmakers.  We are also so very thankful to the BFI London Film Festival for its partnership.”

The winners of the 51st Student Academy Awards® competition will be announced in September.  All Student Academy Award-winning films will be eligible to compete for the 97th Oscars® in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film or Documentary Short Film category.  Past winners have gone on to receive 67 Oscar® nominations and have won or shared 12 awards.

Rolex’s support of the Student Academy Awards is part of the Academy100 initiative.  Launched in May 2024, Academy100 is a $500 million global revenue diversification and outreach campaign.  Support for the Academy100 campaign will endow and fund programs that recognize excellence in cinematic artistry and innovation, including the Student Academy Awards; preserve our film history; enable the creation of world-class film exhibitions, screenings, and publications; train and educate the next generation of diverse global film artists; and produce powerful digital content.  In addition, throughout the Academy100 campaign, the Academy will host convenings, community gatherings, special events, and educational programs with Academy members and the broader film and arts communities in locations around the world.  As the Academy and the film industry become increasingly global, this expanded international outreach will help develop a pool of new filmmakers and Academy members and support the worldwide filmmaking community.

More than $160 million has been committed to the campaign, including ongoing support from long-standing Academy partner Rolex.  Rolex and the Academy are deeply committed to perpetuating cinematic excellence and linking generations of filmmakers, students and arts patrons.
